Anglesey Update!

Hello everyone. We promised in our last post that we would share some pictures of the installation of the large garden building we installed a couple of weeks ago in a beautiful holiday home in Anglesey!

Well here you are...(and try to ignore the big thumb in the way of the bottom one - we might be good at garden rooms but we're no David Bailey that's for sure!)

Garden Office June Update

Hello all Extrarooms readers! Once again we are back with a garden office update and what a few weeks it has been since we last spoke.

In our last post we showed you a sneaky peak of the large garden building that was destined for a lovely corner in a holiday home in Anglesey and we can now report that it is settled in its new home. Unlike most installations this one took a little longer at 2.5 days. The primary reason for this being that the owners had limited knowledge of local builders because it was to be installed in their holiday home garden. Consequently, the Extrarooms team had to travel up a day ahead to level the pitch ground and lay foundations. Nevertheless, the garden building installation went very well and the owners are extremely happy with the finished product. Watch this space for some photos of the finished product!

Also, talking of testimonials... we received this glowing feedback from a very happy client last week! Here’s what he said (and some photos to go along with it):

"Just a short note to say how pleased I am with my garden office.  At last I have been able to complete the finishing touches having managed to find a good electrician.  As the office is now fully wired up I thought you might like to see what it looks like illuminated at night.  If you want to use any of the enclosed photos for promotion/publicity purposes please feel free to do so. I'm also happy to provide a written testimonial if ever one is required for a prospective client in this neck of the woods.

Once again, many thanks for a job well done.

R. Arber"

The next big project that we have been commissioned for is a large double-pitched soundproofed music room. Whenever a soundproofed room is commissioned at Extratrooms we all get pretty excited – even if that is a bit sad. We haven’t got an official trophy but as soundproofing goes, we are the experts (even if we do say so ourselves). From musicians and composers to sound technicians and sound engineers, we have built great quality soundproofed rooms with a 100% customer satisfaction.

As well as our success rate, we base this self-proclaimed title on the fact that we are the only garden office company who can block out decibel levels up to 60 and we’re so confident of this claim that we are also the only company who have a money back guarantee if we cannot achieve the level of soundproofing assured.

In fact, our commitment to soundproofing has led us to build a testing room at the Extrarooms workshop. Here you can bring in a recording of the music/noise you plan on making in your soundproofed room and test any one of our 3 levels of soundproofing specification to see which you need:

  1. Single skin specification – soundproofed up to 30 decibels
  2. Enhanced single skin specification – soundproofed up to 40 decibels
  3. Double skin specification – soundproofed up to 60 decibels

Anyway, enough of us blowing our own trumpet (not that anyone would hear it if we were blowing it in one of our soundproofed music rooms – eesh!?). Have a look at some pictures of this new soundproofed room in the workshop…

Unfortunately, most of the soundproofing qualities come into play as we are installing a room like this so you will have to look out for the next Extrarooms blog post for how we got on!

Garden Office Weekly Update – 6th – 20th May

Once again, apologies are in order for the lack of blog posting over the past couple of weeks – for another month we have been super busy and our humble garden office blog has had to take a back seat! Nevertheless, we’re back now and we’ve made some serious waves since we last spoke…

For the most part we have been working hard the past couple of weeks to build up our collection of stock buildings. Year-on-year we try to increase the amount of stock buildings we keep so we can meet demand quickly when customers come to us wanting an excellent value garden building. As well as this, another great advantage of constructing stock buildings is that we can now present many more special offer garden offices!

So, during our stock building mission this year we have also developed a new way of manufacturing our stock garden buildings and a new colour scheme!

New manufacturing

For single-pitched stock buildings we used to build the front wall tallest and the back wall shortest, allowing for the sloped roof. However, we have now started to build all walls at the same height, creating the fall of the roof within the roof itself. Now, I can appreciate that for anyone outside the Extrarooms workshop this information could be seen as mind-numbingly dull! However, where this gets interesting is how this can benefit the client – the advantage is that if someone wants to buy a stock building but wants to modify it in some way (i.e. have a wall with a window that doesn’t already exist) then they can just swap one wall with another in stock because they are all the same height! More choice for you the customer - great hey!

Colour scheme

We’ve been noticing more and more that lots of people are now opting for powder coated aluminium doors with black frames – and we can see why, it looks very smart! Considering this, we thought about how we could practically incorporate this new trend into our stock building collection and concluded that we would use OSMO (oil with sun-blocker) alongside a black stain ('Black ash" from the Cuprinol garden shades range) to extenuate this new colour scheme whilst adding discolouring protection. On all garden buildings the fascia boards (edges of the roof) suffer the most from bleaching. Therefore we thought that we could start to paint the fascia boards black using a stain and then paint the OSMO on top which not only compliments the powdered doors and black frames nicely but incorporates a sun-blocking element. Have a look and see what you think:

Finally...

Finally, this week we have been working on a large garden building for a client in Anglesey. Rather than explaining the ins and outs of the build how about you have a look for yourself…

More to come on the progress of this build next week!

What’s a garden room when it’s at home anyway?

Studio, art room, sound-proofed music room, gym, granny annex, self-contained accommodation, outdoor dining room, beauty therapy room, guest bedroom, children’s play room, office…the list goes on! For many, the versatility of a garden room is nothing new; however you’d be surprised how many people we speak to still believe that garden buildings are reserved exclusively for storing spades and punctured paddling pools!

Garden Room

It can be argued that the primary reason for this misunderstanding is the blurred boundaries between garden buildings and their close structural cousins; conservatories, sheds and orangeries.

When you think about it like this, it’s very easy to understand how many people can find it difficult to imagine a fully insulated, secure, stylish and electrically fitted garden room in the same context as the damp and drafty wooden shed at the bottom of their garden! Similarly, if thinking about garden rooms and conservatories as counterparts, you can appreciate how easy it may be to translate the common perception that the purchase and installation of a conservatory is a costly and laborious endeavour onto a garden building.

Considering this, it may be helpful to define a garden room by its top 10 UNIQUE benefits:

  1. Warm and comfortable in cold weather.
  2. Cool in the warm weather.
  3. Private and secure.
  4. Multi-usage.
  5. Simple foundation system.
  6. Rapid build time.
  7. Modern appearance.
  8. Low heating costs.
  9. Adaptable design to surroundings.
  10. Low maintenance.
