Affordable, highly insulated, double glazed, bespoke garden offices, all year use
If there is no hard standing available for our garden studios, and we are asked to provide a foundation, as here in Maidenhead, we will install a piled foundation with an insulated cassette floor. (Actually, for the last year we have done all our studios this way.) This is a floor which does not go between the walls, but instead is built as a level deck which rests on the piles, and the whole building in turn rests upon the deck, or cassette floor as it is called it. Timber frame houses are built with cassette floors. This enables us to provide a stable foundation, well ventilated, ( which is crucial for all timber buildings) on even the most uneven ground with no difficulty at all, and at a price which is less than if the customer built a standard slab even if doing the work himself.
We encourage our customers to allow us to do the foundation by providing it cheaply because we have often found in the past that "DIY slabs" can often be a little substandard. Due to the extreme rigidity of our walls, our garden rooms do not warp and settle as a shed or summer house would, in fact, if they are placed on uneven surfaces, they rock, so the slab/foundation must be level and true which is why it is better for us to do it as we then have the responsibility regarding accuracy.

Here showing the walls arriving as completed panels, fully wired plastered painted and glazed. The foot of the walls are screwed to the floor exactly as marked in our workshop, then the walls are aligned at the tops by matching the mitred architraves, this gives an exact alignment for the roof. (This is not the bottom of the page yet).
Building now complete. The customer wanted a 4ft overhang to the roof which will be over a decking area at the front of his garden office, so that he can sit outside during the summer and work on his lap-top. Seems a good idea to me, I look forward to seeing photos of it when done.To see the advantages of a piled foundation or the further advantages of one on a steeply sloping site, click the picture top right on the gallery page, or go directly to it here.

Photos arrived just recently, with so many of our customers living a long way off, its a novelty for us to see our extra rooms after they are established so thanks Anne and David.
